Photographing Food – The Icing On The Cake!

Today I received a lovely compliment on Facebook regarding my event photography.

I’ve worked with a wonderful corporate client, The Office Depot Foundation, for almost 7 years. Their events involve educational outreach by supporting programs that enhance quality of life for children. What does this have to do with food photography? We’ll get there….

We recently photographed an event to provide thousands of sackpacks of school supplies to local schools, and we’ll be photographing an upcoming event featuring a well known anti-bullying speaker. We’re really looking forward to that.

The lovely compliment I received was this – “Your work is so fabulous – it is simple, clear, and yet tells a little story!! I hope you keep posting stuff from other shoots!” It really made my day, thank you Suzi!

As a photographer, I photograph things I love – events, both corporate and family, portraits, and food. And when an event involves food, well, that’s the icing on the cake!

Delectable, photographable desserts!

So what is involved in photographing an event, with or without food?

We’re there to tell a story for our client; who attended their event, what did the event showcase, how did the attendees interact with vendors, speakers, the client, and/or the public, and how will the event be promoted afterward? Often the event is a fundraiser, with many sponsors. The sponsors want to be sure they get plenty of coverage, given the cost of their sponsorship and participation. Many of the events we photograph are for press releases and other kinds of media distribution. There is usually a tight timeframe that we have to meet, and we often bring a laptop for on-site editing to provide our client with images right away.

The event featured here was a fundraiser for the Community YMCA, and featured many local restaurants, such as The Cheese Cave, Ragin Cajun and Cupcake Magician. We were sure to not only sample their delicious food, but to photograph their products and business owners/employees. Highlighting local businesses and venues, such as The Oyster Point Hotel, the venue for this event, is also part of what we do.

So you can see why the company tag line of 3 Chicks That Click is – We love what we do and it shows!
